What we collect, and why

Privacy Policy

Last updated: Oct 2026

Algoasis respects your privacy. We collect as little data as possible and only use it for the purpose we clearly explain below.

What we collect

If you sign up for updates, we collect:

  • Your email address

Our website also measures its visits with Google Analytics, as described under Website analytics. The Algoasis apps and browser extensions send us nothing about you: see Your Algoasis data.

That’s it. No profiles, no tracking across the web, no hidden data collection.

How we use your email

We use your email only to:

  • Send updates about the Algoasis launch
  • Share major product announcements related to Algoasis

We do not:

  • Sell your data
  • Share your email with third parties
  • Use your email for advertising
  • Track your behavior across other sites

Email storage

Your email is stored securely using a third-party email service provider. It is only accessible to the Algoasis team and only for the purposes described above.

Your Algoasis data

The Algoasis apps and browser extensions send us nothing. Everything you set up in Algoasis, and the usage history it keeps, is stored on your device. While you’re signed in to iCloud, Algoasis also keeps a copy in your own private iCloud database so your devices stay in step, unless you turn iCloud sync off in Settings. That database belongs to your Apple Account, and we cannot read it.

Subscriptions are sold and billed by Apple through the App Store. We never see your payment details: the app reads your subscription’s status, meaning which plan you are on and until when, from Apple on your device.

Diagnostics stay on your device too. If you export them from Settings, the file goes only where you choose to send it.

Analytics & tracking

At this stage:

  • We do not use advertising trackers
  • We do not build user profiles
  • We do not track you across sites

Our website measures its visits with Google Analytics; see Website analytics. The Algoasis apps and browser extensions contain no analytics.

Algoasis asks other services for three things, each described below: a site’s icon (Site icons), a site’s name (Site names) and an app’s name (App names). We attach no account and no identifier for you or your device to any of them.

If this changes in the future, this policy will be updated before any new data collection begins.

Site icons

Algoasis shows each site’s own icon beside it. It asks the site itself first, at the site’s usual icon address. Some sites publish no icon there; only for those does Algoasis ask DuckDuckGo’s icon service, icons.duckduckgo.com, for one.

When that happens, the request carries the site’s domain name. Your device makes it directly, exactly as your browser does for any image on a web page, so DuckDuckGo also sees your IP address, your browser’s user-agent, and any cookies your browser already holds for DuckDuckGo. Cookies belonging to the site whose icon is being fetched are not sent — they never leave that site. We attach nothing of our own: no page address, no referrer (the request is marked no-referrer), no account, and no identifier for you or your device. A site that serves its own icon is never named to the service at all.

Addresses we recognise as private are never sent: anything on your local network or under a reserved private domain (for example .local, .internal, .lan, .home.arpa), an IP address, and any address carrying a port. That check is a list of known private naming conventions rather than a test of whether an address can actually be reached from the internet, so a private machine published under an ordinary public domain name would not be recognised as private.

Icons are loaded as ordinary images. Algoasis does not record which icons were requested, and no icon request reaches an Algoasis server.

Site names

When you add a site by typing its address, Algoasis fetches that site’s home page to read the name the site gives itself, so it appears in your list under that name. The request goes to the site you typed, without cookies and without a referrer, and the site sees what it sees on any visit: your IP address and your browser’s standard headers. Addresses we recognise as private, as described under Site icons, are never looked up, and neither are sites you pick from the list Algoasis suggests.

App names

Insights can list the apps you used most on your Mac. To show each one under its App Store name, Algoasis asks Apple’s App Store lookup service, itunes.apple.com. The request names the app by its identifier (for example com.example.app) and carries a two-letter country code taken from your language and region setting; if that country’s store has no listing, Algoasis asks once more with the United States’ code. We attach nothing else: no cookies, no referrer, no account, no identifier for you or your device, and nothing about how long you used the app. Your device makes the request directly, so Apple also sees your IP address and your browser’s standard headers.

The name that comes back is saved with your Algoasis data, so an app is looked up again only after 30 days, or when you change language.

Website analytics

Our website, algoasis.com, uses Google Analytics to measure how many people visit and which pages they read. When you open a page there, your browser loads Google’s analytics script, which sets cookies on algoasis.com and sends Google the address of the page, the page that linked you to it, your IP address, and details of your browser and device. Google handles that data under its own privacy policy. We use the reports only to see how the website is used.

Google Analytics runs only on the website, never in the Algoasis apps or browser extensions. You can block it with your browser’s tracking protection or a content blocker, and the website works the same without it.
